Katinka Hosszu was in record breaking form in Doha setting three world best times ©FINA World CupKatinka Hosszu continued her explosive start to the International Swimming Federation short-course swimming World Cup season by claiming two more world records on her way to securing seven gold medals overall at the Hamad Aquatic Centre in Doha.

The Hungarian won four golds and broke her own 200 metres individual medley world record in the pool yesterday and she was in scintillating form once again on the second day of the meeting, as she set world marks in the 100m and 400m individual medleys.

Hosszu's first world record came in the heats of the 100m individual medley, clocking a time of 57.25sec before going on to take gold in the final with a time of 57.34.

That was followed by 4 mins 20.83sec in the final of the 400m individual medley, which saw her taking 0.02 off her own record set at the World Cup meeting in Berlin last year.

She was not done there, however, as she collected her third gold of the day and seventh overall with a dominant display in the 100m backstroke.

"A lot of people ask me if I'm afraid of burning out but I'm okay," said the 25-year-old.

"As long as I like what I do, I'll keep doing it.

"That's all that matters.

"My goal is to do my best.

"This is my third year here and I've seen more Hungarian supporters here - they come out and they cheer and that's great."

There were a number of other impressive performances on the women's side including gold medals number three and four for The Netherlands' Inge Dekker, as she added to her two wins from yesterday by taking victories in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle.

Spain's Mireia Belmonte Garcia was the dominant force in the 200m butterfly and 400m freestyle, while Jamaican Alia Atkinson claimed her second win in Doha by taking the 50m breaststroke title.

On the men's side, reigning World Cup champion Chad le Clos ended the two-day meeting with three titles as he bagged the 100m butterfly gold.

The South African finished ahead of American Tom Shields to add to his wins in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly yesterday.

"I'm really happy with my time," said the 22-year-old London 2012 champion.

"I wanted to try for the world record but it's really hard to break world records - I'll try in Dubai.

"I'm just happy with my race.

"I got some points, I was lagging a bit after last night - with big races like this it's about getting results and points.

"This is a great venue for me, the crowds have my back - I have a lot of support.

"To my fans - thanks for supporting me.

"Hopefully I can come back in December (for the World Championships) and win some more medals for you."

Australian Thomas Fraser-Holmes and Hungary's David Gyurta also picked up more gold on day two.

Fraser-Holmes was victorious in the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley, while Gyurta added the 100m breaststroke to the 200m title from the day before.

Gyurta's compatriot Gergo Kis impressed in the 1500m freestyle as he touched home for the win in 14:50.24.

The world's top swimmers will be returning to the Hamad Aquatic Centre later this year for the World Championships which run from December 3 to 7 in Doha.

Qatar Swimming Association President Khalil Al Jaber brought the World Cup meeting to a close and looked forward to the upcoming World Championships.

"What a fitting finale to two special days in Doha at the start of a big year in swimming for Qatar," said Al Jaber.

"This week we have welcomed the swimming world and an exceptional event has been hosted to start the new World Cup series.

"I'm very proud and even more excited with what is to come with the World Championships."

Dubai is the next stop on the FINA World Cup series with action due to take place on Sunday (August 31) and Monday (September 1).
