The event, making its return to Australia for the first time in 15 years on August 21 until 24, is expected to see more than 20 world and Olympic champions battling it out in the pool at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre - a venue for the 2018 Commonwealth Games - and at the Marine Stadium, Southport Spit, on August 25 for the 10-kilometre elite open water competition.

Spectators can watch the action from AUD45 (£25/$42/€30) for a family ticket for the heats and AUD60 (£33/$55/€41) for the finals as hosts Australia - with a squad including world champions Cate Campbell, James Magnussen and Christian Sprenger, as well as five-time Olympic medallist Alicia Coutts - take on teams such as the United States, Japan and Canada.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate urged locals to come to the event to support the Australian team at the recently redeveloped aquatic facility.

"We have Australia's newest international-standard aquatic centre hosting one of the world's most prestigious swimming competitions right here in our backyard," he said.

"As the first major competition to be held at the new aquatic centre, this is a unique opportunity for the community to come and be part of our city's history."

Swimming Australia President John Bertrand said he hopes the public support for Australia's swimmers will continue from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games to the Pan Pacific Championships.

"Our swimmers seldom get the chance to swim for the green and gold in home waters and I know they are all looking forward to doing just that on the Gold Coast in August," he explained.

"Our vision is to be the best in the world by 2020 and to be able to take on the current best in the world, the US, in our new pool, in the 2018 Commonwealth Games city, is a fantastic opportunity for our sport.

"We know the Australian public will get behind our team for Glasgow, and we want that support to continue for the Pan Pacs here on the Gold Coast."
