It was originally due to be held for eight days from July 18 to 25 next year.

But the Scottish city's Tollcross International Swimming Centre will now stage the Championships over seven days from July 13 to July 19.

The dates have been changed to avoid a clash with the International Swimming Federation World Championships in Kazan, Russia, which are due to take place from July 24 to August 9.

It means today marks the one year countdown to the start of the Championships in Glasgow.

"British Swimming together with Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, EventScotland and UK Sport believe we can showcase Paralympic Swimming to the whole of world," said David Sparkes, chief executive of British Swimming.

"The Paralympics in London introduced the world to the quality of swimming and I hope that audience will embrace this competition in the same way."

Glasgow was announced as the host city of the competition in 2012 in what was originally intended to be a European Championships.

But a change to the IPC swimming calendar has seen the competition upgraded to a World Championships.

It is expected to see more than 650 athletes from more than 50 countries competing for top honours at the same venue hosting swimming events at the upcoming Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Paul Bush, chief operating officer of EventScotland, said: "Scotland is the perfect stage for events and in the refurbished Tollcross International Swimming Centre we have a venue truly worthy of hosting a championship of this calibre.

"Welcoming the Commonwealth Games to the country in just over a week's time is a huge milestone but what happens after that is vital; and these championships will add to our ever growing portfolio of major events from 2015 onwards."
