"Swiss Silver Bullet" Hug, who claimed five world titles at last year's World Championships in Lyon, clocked a time of 10min 11.62sec to squeeze past double Paralympic champion Waharam, whose time of 10:11.84 took more than nine seconds off the Asian record set by Japan's Masayuki Higuchi last year.

After registering three world records already at the Sharjah Club, Tunisia's Paralympic and world champion Walid Ktila finished the T34 100m 0.38 inside his own world record with a time of 15:31, but a tail-wind of 2.6 metres per second meant the time will not stand.

Uzbekistan's Yokutkhon Kholbekova set her second Asian record in as many days after she recorded a time of 4:59.09 in the T12 1,500m, taking more than 18 seconds off the record set by China's Hongying Xie in August 2003.

Terezinha Guilhermina once again proved she was the best of Brazil as she took the women's T11 200m title ahead of team-mates Jhulia Santos and Jerusa Santos.

Away from the track, Ireland's Yvonne McCloskey took a massive 2.27 metres off British athlete Kim Minett's six-year-old European F40 javelin record as she sealed the win with a throw of 17.28 metres.

In all, almost 500 athletes from 39 countries competed over the four days of competition in Dubai, setting seven world records and 22 regional records.

The IPC Athletics Grand Prix season now moves on to Beijing on April 14.
