Following the announcement by IPC Athletics and Virgin Money London Marathon, there could potentially be up to 14 races at the event on April 13 next year, the second Marathon World Cup to be held in the Olympic city following the inaugural meeting earlier this year, which saw more than 70 athletes taking part.

"We are grateful to the support and co-operation of the Virgin Money London Marathon organisers," said Ed Warner, chairman of the IPC Sport Technical Committee.

"The inclusion of more races for more classes is helping the sport to fulfil its strategy of creating more high level competition opportunities for elite athletes."

Last year saw races for athletes in the T42 to T46 and T11 to T13 classes as well as a T53-T54 event.

With the addition of the T51-T52 next year's event could see a total of seven races for men and seven for women in the T11-T12, T13, T42-T44, T43, T45-46, T51-52 and the T53-54 classes.

In July the IPC revealed London will continue to host the IPC Athletics World Cup until at least 2017.

"[This] year's first IPC Athletics Marathon World Cup was warmly received by all involved and featured a world record from El Amin Chentouf in the T11-13 category with a time of two hours 24 minutes," said Hugh Brasher, the London Marathon race director.

"We look forward to welcoming back some of the world's best Para-athletes to the streets of London in 2014."

American Tatyana McFadden was the star turn in the wheelchair events in April as the three-time Paralympic champion completed the second leg of her eventual marathon Grand Slam while on the men's side Australian Kurt Fearnley upset the home crowd by overcoming six-time winner David Weir.
