The Inas Global Games will see more than 1,000 athletes heading to Guayaquil next year ©InasA delegation from the International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability (Inas) has conducted a second site visit to Guayaquil in Ecuador ahead of the Inas Global Games next year.

Inas executive director Nick Parr led the delegation to the city which will host the Games from September 20 to 27.

The visit coincided with the 2014 Guayaquil Open Swimming Championships and the report from Parr was positive as he praised the work done so far by the Games organisers, ahead of what will be the fourth edition of Games which are expected to attract more than 1,000 of the world's top athletes with an intellectual disability.

"Not only will the Games deliver a week-long showcase of sport for athletes with an intellectual disability, the organisers are working closely with city officials and the Ecuadorian Government to upgrade and refurbish venues and facilities across the city, ensuring a lasting legacy for the people of Guayaquil," said Parr.

Situated in western Ecuador, Guayaquil is the most populous city in the country with more than 3.5 million people.

It was chosen ahead of bids from Colombia and Croatia to host the Games, which will be taking place outside of Europe for the first time.

The 42,000 capacity Modelo Alberto stadium will host the 2015 Inas Global Games on September 20.

Eight sports are currently on the programme for next year's Games including athletics, basketball, cycling, futsal, rowing, swimming, table tennis and tennis.

Last year, Para-taekwondo was announced as the first of a number of demonstration sports expected to be added to the programme in Guayaquil.

INAS was formed in 1985 and with a membership representing thousands of athletes with an intellectual disability across 65 countries.
