Yang Ho_Cho_after_receiving_award_January_2012January 28 - Yang Ho Cho (pictured far right), who led Pyeongchang's successful bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, has been given a special award for enhancing the image of Korea aborad.

Cho, the chairman and chief executive of Korean Air, was honoured at a special ceremony in Seoul hosted by Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI).

Cho, also the chairman of Hanjin Group, won the Korea Image Stepping Stone Award, which is the equivalent to the main prize.

"The Stepping Stone Award is given to those who acted as a stepping stone in promoting Korea and making its national image more warm and friendly," said Choi Jung-wha, President of CICI.

Cho played a significant role in promoting Pyeongchang and making it host the 2018 Winter Olympics following two previous unsuccessful bids.

But in October he was surprisingly overlooked by the Government to run the Organising Committee, who instead chose Kim Jin-sun, the former Governor of Gangwon Province.
