Sergio_Rodriguez_Jaramillo_head_and_shouldersMay 14 - Sergio Rodriguez Jaramillo, one of Colombia's best-known and most respected sports administrators, has been murdered Medellin.


Rodriguez Jaramillo, the President of the Pan American Squash Federation, was shot by gunmen while traveling down in a car as a passenger a street in Medellin on Friday, which is capital of Antioquia department.

The 52-year-old, who was also the treasurer of the Colombian Olympic Committee between 2003 and 2009, was immediately rushed to Medellin General Hospital where he later died.

Rodríguez Jaramillo, a businessman in the construction sector, was Mayor of the Village during last year's South American Games held in Medellín.

He was also part of the Colombian delegation that particpated at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Secretary of Government of Medellín, Juan Felipe Palau Angel, issued a news statement today praising that Jaramillo "as a a good person, very special and highly appreciated in the Municipal administration and business and sports areas."

There was also a tribute on the website of the Colombian Squash Federation.

"When a friend moves away, he leaves the most special memories and gestures that identified him by his pace to leave a mark on the hearts of others," it said.

"Sergio Rodríguez was a man, who was honest and above all a hard worker, always willing to contribute to sport the best of his abilities.

"His loss leaves a huge mark on the sport of our country.

"Sergio Rodriguez will be remembered for his intelligence, leadership and nobility as well as being a visionary."

No arrests have so far been made.
