The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is concerned over the 2024 Friendship Games taking place in Russia, WADA Director General Olivier Niggli said during the Foundation Board meeting. "Russia has the intention of potentially organizing a multi-sports event in 2024 that is called the Friendship Games", Niggli said. "This seems to be completely organized outside the framework of sport, to the extent that even the chairman or the president of the organizing committee would be the president of a federation that just lost its recognition from the sports movement".

Marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe believes athletics has come through a period where damaging allegations and evidence of wrongdoing has tarnished the sport.

Renowned whistle-blower Betsy Andreu has told the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that athletics could be facing doping problems on a level worse than cycling faced post the Lance Armstrong era.

Sir Craig Reedie, President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), has urged International Sports Federations (IFs) and National Anti-Doping Organisations (NADOs) to improve the efficiency of their anti-doping efforts – saying, “Let’s test athletes for the substances which are most likely to be abused in their sport”.
