Ukraine's Yulia Tkach and Odunayo Adekuoroye of Nigeria have both climbed to the top of their respective weight categories in the latest United World Wrestling women’s rankings for August.

It follows "adjustments" made to the standings in a bid to re-align them with entry lists for the World Championships, due to be held in Paris between August 21 and 26.

Former 2014 world champion Tkach assumes the top spot in the 63 kilograms division, following the departure of Rio 2016 gold medallist Risako Kawai of Japan to the 60kg category.

Tkach, ranked second in July, won the Ukraine International and Dan Kolov events in the spring and has added bronze medals from the European Championships as well as the Poland Open in July.

Kawai, a runner-up at the 2015 World Championships, won the Asian title at 60kg in May and has gone straight into top spot at her new weight.

Adekuoroye, a 2015 World Championships bronze medallist, is the new number one at 55kg as Japan's world champion Mayu Mukaida drops down to 53kg.

The Nigerian, ranked second last month, won the Golden Grand Prix Final last November in Baku and also claimed a gold medal at the African Championships in April.

Mukaida, meanwhile, takes first place at 53kg in front of compatriot Saori Yoshida.

Helen Maroulis of the United States, the Rio 2016 gold medallist at 53kg, is moving up to 58kg where she is listed in second behind reigning world and Olympic champion Kaori Icho of Japan.

In the remaining three weight categories the leading wrestlers are unchanged.

Rio 2016 gold medallists from Japan Eri Tosaka at 48kg and Sara Dosho at 69kg as well as Canada’s Erica Wiebe at 75kg hold on to their number one positions.

However, Dosho is the only member of the trio competing in Paris and therefore the only one with a chance to hold on to her number one position.
