German twin sisters Mascha and Seija Ballhaus enjoyed a memorable day as they both claimed medals at the International Judo Federation Cadet World Championships in Santiago.

Seija took gold in the under-52 kilograms event and her sister finished with the silver medal in the under 48kg competition at the Santiago National Stadium.

Germany sealed their first gold of the event when Seija, a Cadet European Championships bronze medallist, defeated France's Faiza Mokdar in the final in just 45 seconds.

The German fighter forced Mokdar to tap on the ground with a koshi-jime strangle to secure the most prestigious title of her career so far.

Hungary's Szofi Ozbas took one bronze medal, while Japan's Mina Kobayashi won the second.

Mascha failed to match her sister's gold medal as she was beaten by Hungarian Brigitta Varga in the under 48kg final.

Varga managed to counter her German opponent for waza-ari within just 49 seconds of the golden score period.

There was more delight for Germany as Jana Gussenberg earned one bronze medal with Japan's Aiko Watanabe sealing the second.

There was further sibling success in boys competition with Kazbek Naguchev of Russia winning gold in the under-60kg category to follow his brother Abrek's bronze at under-55kg yesterday.

Leading up to the final Kazbek had won all of his fights by ippon and produced another to defeat Cadet European Cup winner Nurzat Salimbayev of Kazakhstan in the final.

The first bronze medal was won by Mongolian Narmandakh Bayanmunkh while Japan's Hayato Kondo also made it onto the podium.

Ranto Katsura of Japan was the outstanding judoka in the under 66kg category as he dominated 17-year-old national junior champion Mark Hristov of Bulgaria in the final.

The 16-year-old produced two waza-ari scores, including a uchi-mata, to gain control of the contest.

Hristov fought his way back into the bout and scored a waza-ari before time ran out on his comeback.

The first bronze medal was claimed by 17-year-old Cadet Asian Cup winner Dhzamoliddin Abdulloev of Tajikistan, while Canada's Keagan Young completed the podium by winning the second.

Individual events are due conclude on Saturday (August 12), before mixed team competition brings the Championships to a close the following day.
