Philip Dalhausser and Nicholas Lucena of the United States claimed the men’s title at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour event in Gstaad.

Beaten in last year's final of this event, the Americans proved too strong for Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak of Poland at the Eisbahn Areal in the Swiss Alps village today.

Seeded third this week, Dalhausser and Lucena did not lose a set in the seven matches they played as they claimed a 21-18, 21-19 win in the final.

It was the fourth Gstaad title of Swiss-born Dalhausser's career but his first with Lucena.

Earlier in the day, Dalhausser and Lucena defeated Brazilians Andre Loyola Stein and Evandro Oliveira 21-19, 21-18 to reach the gold medal match.

Evandro defeated the Americans in last year's final alongside his Rio 2016 Olympic partner Pedro Solberg.

Kantor and Losiak, meanwhile, came from a set down to also beat Brazilian opposition.

Saymon Barbosa Santos and Álvaro Morais Filho took the opening set 21-19 but their European opponents recovered to take the second and decisive third sets 21-15, 15-13.

In the all-Brazilian bronze medal contest, Santos and Filho prevailed 21-12, 21-18.

German duo Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude won the women’s title yesterday.

The sixth-seeds clinched gold with a comfortable 21-18, 22-20 straight-sets victory over Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca of Brazil.

Following the conclusion of this event, the FIVB World Tour will resume on July 19 in Olsztyn in Poland.

That will be followed by the FIVB World Championships in Vienna between July 28 and August 6.
