The Swede was given the award during a ceremony for the IWGA organised in conjunction with a dinner here at the SportAccord Convention alongside the Association of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Recognised International Sport Federation (ARISF) and the Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS).

Olofsson won the title convincingly in an online poll, which saw her receive more than 39 per cent of the votes. 

IWGA President José Perurena López handed over the Athlete of the Year trophy and a Tissot watch to Olofsson, a double world champion and European champion in muay thai last year.

Olofsson said in her thank you speech that she is looking forward to the 2017 World Games in Polish city Wrocław, where she will be aiming for more success.

She also thanked the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) for their strong support.

The IFMA was provisionally recognised by IOC in December of last year, along with the International Cheer Union (ICU).

Both bodies were accepted following a discussion at an IOC Executive Board meeting in Lausanne.

The successful duo were thus made eligible for IOC development funding and became members of ARISF.

Their provisional membership lasts for up to three years, and they can only be made full members by an IOC Session - so at Lima in September at the earliest.

They cannot be considered for the programme at any form of the Olympic Games until then.
