Top seed Lin Dan of China claimed the men's singles title at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Swiss Open at the St. Jakobshalle in Münchenstein today.

The double Olympic champion claimed a comfortable straight sets win over compatriot and second seed Shi Yuqi at the Grand Prix Gold level event.

Lin, who was knocked out of the All England Open semi-finals in Birmingham by Shi last week, comfortably beat his fellow countryman 21-12, 21-11.

In the women's singles final, China's Chen Xiaoxin produced yet another shock.

The unseeded player beat Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia, the tournament's seventh seed, yesterday to reach the final and she managed to once again upset the odds and defeat compatriot and third seed Chen Yufei today.

Xiaoxin, ranked 64th in the world, appeared unfazed by her opponent's superior seeding and claimed a 21-19, 21-14 straight sets win.

There was further Chinese success in the men's and women's doubles competitions.

Chai Biao and Hong Wei, the top seeds, came from behind to beat another Chinese pairing, Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan, in the gold medal match.

Cheng and Nan took the opening set 21-13.

However, the favourites for the title, Chai and Hong, showed why they were the top seeds as they turned the match around by winning the second and third sets 21-16, 21-15.

In the women's doubles competition, Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China successfully defeated Bulgarian sisters Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva 21-16, 21-15.

The Thai duo of Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai defeated second seeded Indonesians Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto to win the mixed doubles title.

Puavaranukroh and Taerattanachai improved on the silver medal they won at last month's Thailand Masters as they defeated Jordan and Susanto 21-18, 21-15.
