Over 1,000 karatekas from all over India gathered in the city of Goa to display their passion for the sport in a "celebration of the many Karate values."

The celebration took place during the Indian Senior Karate Championships, held at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Panaji.

Athletes travelled from all over the country to show their enthusiasm for the ancient discipline, as diverse activities were held throughout the spirited National Karate Day.

In addition to the vast number of karatekas, over 500 referees and officials also took part in the festivities.

The event was headed by India Karate Federation President Karate Thiagarajan and was attended by the country's Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar.

India failed to win a single medal at last year's World Karate Championships held in the Austrian city of Linz, despite sending a delegation of 16 karatekas.

The World Karate Federation (WKF) published the official photo book of the tournament last month.

The book is said to "present all the excitement, emotion and beauty" of the competition held in October.

Produced by the WKF's media department, the book guides fans through a detailed overview of the best moments of the event.

More than 100 pictures are presented across 38 pages, giving karate fans an opportunity to reflect on the competition.

The book includes pictures of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as the action from the Tips Arena.
