Infront Sports & Media have signed a series of agreements which will enable MTV Oy to broadcast flagship ice hockey events live in Finland.

The agreements include granting the Finnish media company rights to provide extensive coverage of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships between 2018 and 2023.

They will be able to show the Champions Hockey League during the same period, as well as the Spengler Cup Davos 2017 nationwide.

"Finland is a nation of true ice hockey fans, with both national team and club competitions drawing audiences in the millions," said Jarkko Nordlund, the MTV Oy chief executive at a press conference.

"The extended agreements with Infront for the IIHF flagship event as well as the Champions Hockey League through until 2023 ensure our viewers the very best live event coverage of the nation’s favourite players and national heroes.

"Furthermore, we are delighted to add the Spengler Cup Davos to our ice hockey programming - ensuring we are the number one choice for ice hockey coverage across the country."

The extended rights coverage will include providing full-length, highlights, live and delayed transmissions across all media platforms.

Infront, a Wanda Group company, are the exclusive media and marketing partner of both the IIHF and the Champions Hockey League, as well as the Spengler Cup Davos.

Bruno Marty, executive director of winter sports at Infront, believes the agreements are key to providing fans of the sport the best possible coverage.

"Finland is a key sports market especially for ice hockey and other snow sports and this year’s excitement has been enhanced due to the country’s recent success at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, which increased relevance and appeal even further," said Marty.

"We have been able to offer extended agreements to MTV Oy due to the strength of our long-standing and extensive ice hockey portfolio that provides one-stop shop access to the very best international ice hockey action available."

The agreements build on the existing relationship which is enjoyed by MTV Oy, with the company holding rights to this year’s Ice Hockey World Championship in Cologne and Paris.

They will also show the 2017 to 2018 Champions Hockey League season and this year's Spengler Cup Davos tournament, which will be held from December 26 to 31.
