Football superstar Neymar is to front a soon-to-be-launched Rio 2016 project which will encourage participants to create their own charm bracelet, or fita as they’re known in Brazil, holding their "dreams and goals".

Supported by Panasonic, a member of the The Olympic Programme (TOP) sponsorship scheme in the category for audio, television and video equipment since 1987, the DREAM "FITA" PROJECT is due to begin on March 8.

Those taking part can create their own fita by entering their dream or goal on the web, which will be passed on to Neymar.

They must then wait to see if they are one of the lucky few to receive a message from the Barcelona and Brazil forward.

"Rio 2016 Olympic Games is the place everybody’s dream gathers at," read a statement on Panasonic’s website.

"With everyone bringing their dreams, Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be the place full of passion and excitement.

"That’s what the DREAM 'FITA' PROJECT is all about."

Participants are encouraged to tie a fita around their wrist while making a wish.

When the ribbon snaps, their wish is said to come true.

According to reports last month, Neymar will be put forward by Brazilian coach Dunga as one of three over-age players on the Olympic football team for Rio 2016.

The 24-year-old, who finished third behind Argentina's Lionel Messi and Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo in the recent FIFA Ballon d’Or vote, has repeatedly expressed his desire to be able to represent his country at his home Games.

He will be allowed to compete in the Olympic football tournament providing he is given permission by his parent club as he would likely miss the start of the 2016-17 La Liga season, as well as a series of pre-season friendlies.
