The 26-year-old from Gateshead led another day for the British team as Ken Churchill took a silver in the F37 javelin and there were bronze medals for Sally Reddin in the F54 shot and Tracey Hinton in the T12 400 metres.

Miller had to watch from the sidelines as Czech rival Radim Beles went last but, despite throwing a personal best, he could not overhaul the Briton who had earlier thrown 32.56 metres

"I was a bit nervous because I knew if he put in a good throw at the end there was nothing I could do about it," said Miller. "It hasn't sunk in yet."

Churchill claimed the first medal of the day for Team GB as he landed 45.84m for javelin silver but he still believes he has work to do.

"I'm second best in the world and I don't want to be second best - I want to be number one," said the Durham thrower.

"I also want to take the world record over 55m. I've got something to work on in training."

Hinton ran well off the bend and held off a late challenge from Tunisia's Nahjah Chouaya to claim 400m bronze to add to her 800m silver.

The 59-year-old Reddin took a medal back to Lincolnshire as she threw 5.46m to take bronze in the shot.

"It was a really good competition and a bronze is fine," said Reddin.

"I've been the oldest member of the squad since Sydney. I'll carry on for as long as I'm still enjoying it and am being selected."
