Thomas_Bach_re-elected_President_of_DOSBDecember 4 - Thomas Bach was today re-elected as President of the German Olympic Sport Confederation (DOSB) until 2014.


The 1976 Olympic fencing gold medallist, who was the only candidate, was re-elected until 2014.

He polled 92 per cent of the votes, 360 of the 392 members backing him with 20 voting against him and 12 abstaining.

"I am very happy with the result, because it expresses the confidence of the General Assembly and demonstrates the unity of the DOSB," said Bach, the vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The 57-year-old lawyer was the founding President of the DOSB, which was created by a merger of the Deutscher Sportbund (DSB), and the Nationales Olympisches Komitee für Deutschland (NOK) which dates back to 1895, the year it was founded and recognized as NOC by the IOC.

It now has a combined total of 28 million members and represents 62 sports in Germany 

Walter Schneeloch was re-elected as vice-president of the DOSB while Christa Thiel, the President of the German Swimming Federation, was elected as vice-president of competitive sports.

The meeting also took the opportunity to unanimously reaffirm its support for Munich's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

"The unanimous support send the right signal to the German population," said Bach.
