The Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee will be part of a Satellite Village for shooting competitors and officials during Glasgow 2014August 21 - A Satellite Village in Dundee and Angus to host the 500 athletes and officials involved in the shooting competition at the Commonwealth Games was unveiled today by Glasgow 2014. 


Those participating in the shooting competition will be accommodated in the Satellite Village for proximity to the event at Barry Buddon in Carnoustie, Angus.

Two hotels will be used to make up the Village, the Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee, located 11 miles from the shooting competition venue, and Carnoustie Golf Hotel, three miles from Barry Buddon.

These venues will jointly act as accommodation providers for up to the athletes and team officials providing, what Glasgow 2014 claim will be, a high level of service and ensuring a 'home from home' environment.

The Village is due to open on July 13 and will operate until July 30.

The accommodation at both hotels will consist of twin share bedrooms and a full housekeeping service.

A dining area will be available 24 hours a day as will an information desk.

An athletes and team officials lounge will also be open 24 hours a day with wireless internet available free of charge as well as entertainment areas.

There are expected to be around 40 different countries and territories competing in shooting at Glasgow 2014 across the four disciplines, full-bore, clay target, pistol and small bore rifle.

"We are pleased that in addition to the shooting competition being held at the Barry Buddon range we have managed to secure accommodation venues which reflect the world class standard of athletes we have participating," said David Grevemberg, chief executive of Glasgow 2014. 

"Our discussions with all the accommodation providers in both Dundee and Carnoustie have been excellent and we look forward to growing these relationships between now and July next year.

"It is fantastic to see that the enthusiasm for hosting the Games continues and can be seen across Scotland."
