Bayron Lopez has been re-elected President of the Ecuadorian Paralympic Committee (EPC) and will serve another four-year term.

Lopez will continue leading the organisation during its preparations for the 2017 Youth Parapan American Games in Brazilian city São Paulo as well as the 2019 Parapan American Games in Peru’s capital Lima and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

"This means that the athletes, coaches and authorities believe in the work we are doing, which is why they want us to continue," he said.

"It is not easy, but we have managed to work together as a team with every sporting federation for the disabled in Ecuador.

"We have reached far corners of the country and identified some young promising athletes who were waiting for an opportunity in sports.

"Our next challenge is to win a Paralympic medal at Tokyo 2020.

"We want to achieve inclusion through sports, and be an example and support those countries who are still struggling to develop Para-sports.

"In order to meet our objectives, we will continue working closely with both the International Paralympic Committee and the Americas Paralympic Committee."

Sonia Jara was appointed vice-president, while Jose Benavides has taken up the role of secretary general.

Other Board members include Jose Sangoquiza, Maximo Chilan and Guido Santillan.

Ecuador sent a five-athlete delegation to the Rio 2016 Paralympics in August, the country’s biggest ever at a single Games.

However, they failed to win a medal.

The South American nation also won five medals, one gold and four bronzes, at the Parapan American Games in Canadian city Toronto last year.

Ronny Mauricio Santos Iza topped the podium in the men’s long jump T20, while there were third-place finishes for Darwin Castro in the men’s 5,000 metres T11, Stalin David Mosquera in the men’s shot put T20, and table tennis player Paul Polo Astudillo in the men's singles class eight.

Astudillo also partnered Gabriel Salazar Perez to bronze in the men's team class six to eight.
