India's world number 75 Anand Pawar upset the odds to beat second seed Misha Zilberman from Israel in the semi-finals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Brazil Grand Prix in Foz do Iguacu.

Pawar, ranked number four in the tournament, beat Zilberman 18-21, 21-14, 21-12 in 69 minutes to progress to the final tomorrow.

The 30-year-old Pawar, who had not dropped a game in the tournament before today, last made the finals of a tournament at the Sri Lanka Open in 2014.

Pawar will now face Malaysia's Zulfadli Zulkiffli, the tournament's number one seed, in the final after he comfortably progressed with a straight sets win over Brazilian Ygor Coelh Oliveira 21-18, 24-22.

In the women's competition both of the top seeds needed three games to see of their respective opponents in their semi-finals.

To compound Silva's misery she also lost in the semi-finals of the women's doubles as her and compatriot Paula B Pereira were beaten by German duo Barbara Bellenberg and Eva Janssens 25-23, 21-11.

Facing the number one seeded Germans in the final will be Bianca De Oliveir and Naira Beat Vier who beat Manoela Koepsel and Thayse Cruz 22-20, 21-11 in an all Brazilian semi-final.
