China’s Wang Yihan came from behind to beat top seed Carolina Marin of Spain to reach the women’s singles final at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Indonesia Open at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta today.

Marin made the brighter start in the tie to claim the opening game 21-17 and close on making her first appearance in a BWF Superseries Premier event final this season.

The Spaniard failed to maintain her high standard in the second with Wang beginning to dominate the contest.

Wang, the fourth seed, eventually completed the turnaround in the tie to seal a 16-21, 21-11, 21-17 victory over the two-time world champion.

Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying will meet Wang in the final after she cruised to a 21-9, 21-15 win over Wang Shixian of China.

Home hopes of success in the men’s singles were ended by Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei after he claimed a straightforward 21-9, 21-18 win over Indonesia’s Ihsan Maul Mustofa.

Lee will take on Jan Ø. Jørgensen in the final, the Danish player coming through a gruelling semi-final against China’s Tian Houwei.

The 28-year-old, who helped his nation claim their first Thomas Cup title last month, let a one game advantage slip but eventually hit back to triumph 21-14, 18-21, 21-17.

South Korean top seeds Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong booked their place in the men’s doubles final by defeating Denmark’s Anders Ska Rasmussen and Kim Astrup 21-16, 21-14.

They will face China’s Chai Biao and Hong Wei, who saw off the second Danish pairing of Mads Conrad-Pet and Mads Piele Kolding by an 18-21, 21-16, 21-14 scoreline.

Japan’s Ayaka Takahashi and Misaki Matsutomo continued to justify their top seed in the women’s doubles competition by beating the Dutch duo Selena Piek and Eefje Muskens 21-10, 21-18.

Yu Yang and Tang Yuanting will hope to upset the Japanese stars after Chinese pairi overcame Malaysia’s Vivian Kah Hoo and Khe Wei Woon 21-15, 21-9 to reach the final.

In the mixed doubles competition Xu Chen and Ma Jin triumphed in an all-Chinese semi-final with Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong by 21-15, 21-18.

They will now take on South Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na, who eliminated the top seeded Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China 21-14, 21-17.
