The USA Knockouts recovered from a season-opening defeat in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) with victory over the Mexico Guerreros at the Miccosukee Sports & Entertainment Dome in Miami.

Having lost 3-2 against the British Lionhearts in week one, the Knockouts produced an impressive display to overcome their opponents 4-1.

Super heavyweight Brandon Lynch set them on their way by claiming a 3-0 victory over former USA Boxing National Championships medallist Elvis Garcia.

This was followed by victory for flyweight Antonio Vargas, the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games champion, who took all five rounds on every judges' scorecard in a hugely successful WSB debut against Orlando Huitzil.

Another debutant Jonathan Esquivel triumphed 3-0 against Rogelio Romero at light heavyweight, while the last fight of the night saw Carlos Balderas beat Lindolfo Delgado in a reverse of their preliminary round meeting at Toronto 2015.

Welterweight Paul Kroll suffered the lone loss of the night for the US in a close bout with Fernando Armenta, who was named the winner by split decision.

But that was the only blemish on a good night’s work for Billy Walsh’s team.

"Some of the performances today were world class," said Walsh.

"We're building towards being a world class team and trying to compete at a world class level.

"I'm very happy with the performances tonight, it's been a really great improvement over the last couple of weeks."

In the day’s other Group B match, the British Lionhearts maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-2 away victory over the Morocco Atlas Lions in Casablanca.

An inexperienced Lionhearts line-up, which featured three boxers that had never competed in WSB, overcame the Atlas Lions to put them top of their pool.

Wins for lightweight Luke McCormack and WSB debutants Frazer Clarke at super heavyweight and flyweight Muhammad Ali gave the Lionhearts a lead which the Atlas Lions were unable to claw back, despite restoring some pride by taking the final two contests of the night.

Light flyweight Hassan Saada and welterweight Mohammed Rabii beat Thomas Whittaker-Hart and Ekow Essuman respectively to claim victory for the Moroccan team though their triumphs proved to be in vain.

There was also a win for the Azerbaijan Baku Fires, who narrowly overcame the Uzbek Tigers 3-2 in a Group D encounter in Baku.
