Edvard Kolar has been appointed the new secretary general of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia ©FSRExperienced sports administrator and renowned gymnastics coach Edvard Kolar has been appointed as the new secretary general of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia (FSR), it has been announced.

 
Kolar will replace Tone Jagodic following a decision by the FSR's Executive Board.

Kolar used to coach Mitja Petkovšek, a two-time parallel bars world champion, before becoming chief executive and secretary general of the Slovenian Gymnastics Federation.  

He is also a former general director of the Directorate for Sport at Slovenia's Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.

He has a PhD in kinesiology and a Masters degree in sports management, and has written more than 140 papers on sports training, the biomechanics of sport, management of sport and strategic and project management.

Slovenia has competed at every Summer and Winter Olympics since making its debut at Albertville in 1992 following independence from Yugoslavia.

They have won a total of 34 medals, 15 in the Summer Games, 19 in the Winter.

Six of them have been gold, four at the Summer edition and two in the Winter.

They won both of those Winter gold at Sochi 2014 thanks to skiier Tina Maze in the women's downhill and giant slalom. 

Slovenia's overall total of eight medals at those Games was their best-ever.

Slovenia's most successful Summer Olympics came at Sydney 2000 when they won two gold medals, rowers Iztok Čop and Luka Špik in the men's double sculls and shooter Rajmond Debevec in the men's 50 metre rifle 3 positions.
