February 10 - Seoul's Mongchontoseong subway station has been rebranded as a special "Pyeongchang 2018 Station" ahead of a visit by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission next week.

The Seoul station has been decorated to highlight that the capital city and its residents are united behind Pyeongchang's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics and to show South Korea's passion for winter sports.

Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT) runs four subway lines around Seoul, and has decorated the station with three-dimensional artworks celebrating Korea's iconic winter sports moments, many honoured Olympians, as well as striking images of Pyeongchang's local scenery.

The station, situated near Seoul's Olympic Park, will showcase the special artworks until the IOC announces the Host City for the 2018 Winter Games at its Session in Durban on July 6.

At an unveiling ceremony held in the Mongchontoseong station, Seong-jik Eum, chief Executive of SMRT said: "With the IOC decision fast approaching, SMRT is excited to show its support for Pyeongchang's bid to host the 2018 Winter Games.

"We are proud to decorate this station as a special PyeongChang 2018 station and help people relive some of Korea's most memorable winter sports moments."

Yang Ho Cho, the chairman and chief executive of Pyeongchang 2018, said: "On behalf of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, I would like to thank SMRT for its support as we prepare to welcome the IOC Evaluation Commission next week.

"We have seen an amazing response from people who have travelled through the newly decorated station.

"Residents from Seoul and people from around the country are delighted to see images of their Olympic heroes and celebrate the spirit of Olympism.

"This fun and exciting artistic exhibition shows that Pyeongchang's bid for the Winter Games has incredible public support, and that Korea is a nation passionate about winter sports."
