For two remarkable forty-something track and field athletes, this has been a very exciting week - bringing each confirmation of a fifth Olympic appearance.

There was news from the International Association of Athletics Federations this week which, while it may not have stirred the world’s media organisations into frantic response, will nevertheless have brought satisfaction to a significant proportion of the sport’s hard-core following – that is, athletics geeks.

I am writing this a couple of hours after posting a news story about the ongoing transfer of nationality involving three Jamaican athletes, including Olympic and world medallist Shericka Williams, who now want to compete for Bahrain.

This week’s dead heat in the Pan American Games rowing final, where Chile and Argentina shared the Men’s Coxless Pairs title in Toronto with identical times of 6min 27.77sec  caused quite a stir.
