Sports compression manufacturer SKINS, a backer of several high-profile sporting campaigns in recent years, has filed for bankruptcy with the Swiss Court. 

The Rainbow Round of Sport, held between April 6 and 9, aimed to highlight the issue of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) prejudice in sport, by showing support for athletes, fans, volunteers and others involved in sport who may be LGBTI by wearing rainbow laces.

I’m back from a summer break in Australia for the festive period – and glad to be so. Not just to be back in Europe and away from sweltering Sydney, but also to be back on deck for a new year. There’s so much to do.

I had an interesting experience towards the end of last year. It occurred when I visited the CEO of a prominent local sporting team to brief them about SKINS' then forthcoming social marketing campaign around supporting LGBT individuals in the sporting environment, known as #RainbowLaces.

It was terrific to be part of British Prime Minister David Cameron’s Anti-Corruption Summit and have the opportunity to join the esteemed panel to talk about the scope and opportunity to address corruption issues in sport. 

Next week, I am delighted to be attending the global anti-corruption summit convened by the British Prime Minister David Cameron.

We have launched in Australia a real live example of how we want to make a difference. It’s the "Rainbow Round of Sport" to help highlight the issues around homophobia in sport by inviting athletes and teams to wear #RainbowLaces, from March 31 through to April 4 across all sport. We will be highlighting the campaign across six elite, professional sports in Australia.

What a fascinating insight into FIFA we had last week.

One of the things that struck me over the course of last year about the many issues we face in sports governance, and which gave me cause for reflection during the festive season when I spent some quality time with my family, is the high incidence of nepotism at the highest levels of sport.

I have just had a wonderful experience that I want to share with you.

I know sportsmen and women don’t like to lose, but I see the Wallabies' loss to the All Blacks in Saturday’s Rugby World Cup Final as an honourable loss.

As someone who likes to be on the front foot in terms of putting it to sporting bodies about their governance practices and the other big issues facing world sport, I didn’t expect to receive an invitation to speak at a conference put on by the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS).

This FIFA stuff is the most radical story in the history of sport.

So far, 14 people have been arrested on corruption charges relating to the selection of World Cup hosts, bungs for Presidential election votes and backhanders for the placement of multi-million dollar commercial contracts.

In short, FIFA is not an organisation you’d want to be directly associated with at the moment. Or at least, you’d think not…
