Jacobellis, whose first world title came ten years ago, was neck and neck with Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France heading into the closing stages of the race but maintained her speed approaching the corner and managed to pull away.

The podium was completed by Italy's Michela Moioli, with Alexandra Jekova of Bulgaria fourth.

Jacobellis' victory adds to the world titles won in 2005, 2007 and 2011, making her the first snowboarder to win four World Championship titles in the same event.

The men's final saw Matteotti of Italy keep both his cool and his balance as he chased a first world title, leading from the front throughout, while behind him Nate Holland of the United States fell and other competitors had unsteady landings towards the finish.

As a result Matteotti landed his final jump with a comfortable advantage and roared with delight at achieving a landmark title in his career, before being accosted by members of the Italian team, who bundled him to the floor in celebration.

Canada's Kevin Hill followed the Italian over the finish to claim the silver, while Nick Baumgartner rounded off the podium of a spread-out final to reward them both for progressing through the rounds.

There was disappointment earlier in the day for the hosts Austria, who saw one of their medal favourites Markus Schairer unable to compete in the men's competition as a consequence of an injury sustained in a crash during yesterday's qualification runs.

Snowboarding competition continues in the Austrian resort tomorrow with the male and female halfpipe finals.
