Men's top seed Rafael Nadal lost just four games to Serbian Dusan Lajovic in 93 minutes of tennis, winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-1.

He will face Spanish countryman David Ferrer in a repeat of last year's final, after he dispatched South African Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1.

Number seven seed Andy Murray also made light work of his fourth round opponent, despite playing on the courts of Roland Garros for a third straight day after fading light interrupted his third round match.

The Briton beat Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).

He will face crowd favourite Gaël Monfils in the quarter-finals, in a match which could be the pick of the round.

In the women's draw, the highest remaining seed, Simona Halep, produced a confident display to silence opponent Sloane Stephens of the United States.

Halep, the Romanian number four seed, won 6-4, 6-3

"I feel confident and I like the clay but I want to go further even if I know it's going to be very tough in the next round," said Halep, who also made in to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in January.

Her last eight opponent will be 2009 French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, who beat Czech Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-4.

Elsewhere in the women's draw, Italy's Sara Errani, the number 10 seed, beat Serbia's Jelena Jankovic 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Men's quarter-final action begins tomorrow, with Novak Djokovic of Serbia among those in action, playing Milos Raonic of Canada for a place in the last four.
