Defending lightweight double sculls world champions Laura Milani and Elisabetta Sancassani won their repechage in Amsterdam ©Getty ImagesItaly's defending champions in the lightweight women's double sculls, Laura Milani and Elisabetta Sancassani, got their title defence back on track at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam after defeat in the heat, as they won their repechage in 7min 40.06sec ahead of Sweden and Ireland.


Poland's Joanna Dorociak and Weronika Deresz, who lost their opening heat to Great Britain's pairing of London 2012 Olympic champions Kat Copeland and Imogen Walsh, were next fastest winners in 7:42.76, with the other repechage victors being the United States pairing of Devery Karz and Michelle Sechser in 7:51.00 and China's Wenyi Huang and Dandan Pan 7:44.45.

Switzerland's lightweight men's pair of Simon Niepmann and Lucas Tramer, who warmed up for their title defence by winning the World Cup in Lucerne, have got their challenge back on track after failing to manage better than third place in their opening heat.

The Swiss pair clocked 7:26.94 in winning their repechage and progressed along with Italy's crew of Lorenzo Tedesco and Alberto Di Seyssel (in 7:29.22 and Bulgaria's Zlatko Karaivanov and Vassil Vitanov 7:33.17.

Russia's Liana Gorgodze and Elizaveta Tikhanova won's the women's pair repechage in 8:03.43, finishing clear of Serbia's Jovana Arsic and Iva Obradovic in 8:07.69.

Turkey's Onat Kazakli and Fuad Rafail produced a winning performance in the men's pair repechage to progress in a time of 7:10.29 along with the US pairing of Glenn Ochal and Charles Cole, who clocked 7:13.15.

They will be joined by the winners of the opening repechage, Oscar Vasquez Ochoa and Felipe Leal Atero of Chile, who clocked 7:10.42 ahead of Croatia's Ante Janjic and Vjekoslav Kolobaric in 7:11.61.

Japan's Kanako Ueda made sure of her place in the lightweight single sculls semi-finals by winning her repechage in 8:49.02, with Algeria's Amina Rouba in 8:53.27 and Israel's Chen Oshri in 8:56.28 also going through.

Today's rowing programme was stopped early due to a wind change which occurred earlier than forecast, and the seven remaining races will be run from 1.11pm Central European Time onwards during tomorrow's programme.
