Organisers have confirmed that over 5,500 tickets have been sold since they went on sale, despite the line-up of gymnasts not even having been revealed for the competition on December 6.

The eight highest ranked male and female gymnasts in the world will compete across a range of apparatus during a single mixed session between 1pm and 4.30pm.

Glasgow Life, which operates the Emirates Arena, has worked alongside British Gymnastics, EventScotland and UK Sport to bring the prestigious tournament to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games venue over the past three years.

"I'm delighted, but not surprised, that the Glasgow World Cup has sold out so quickly," said Councillor Archie Graham, chair of Glasgow Life.

"Last year's event was an outstanding success and so was the gymnastics competition at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"With some of the world's best gymnasts returning to the city once again, the 2014 event promises to be another resounding success.

"Glasgow has a longstanding relationship with gymnastics and as a city we continue to set the bar high.

"The 2015 World Gymnastics Championships is taking place in the city next year and with the biggest names in gymnastics set to go for gold ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, it is easy to see why Glasgow is regarded as one of the top ten sporting cities in the world."

The eight men will compete in the disciplines of floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and the horizontal bar, while the women will participate in floor, vault, uneven bars and beam.

"Scotland is the perfect stage for events, and with the Glasgow Gymnastics World Cup selling out once again, it is clear that there is a huge appetite and enthusiasm for sporting events in the city," said Paul Bush, chief operating officer of EventScotland.
