Eltham College_Front_July_15_July 16 - Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) have overhauled the pitches at London's Eltham College in preparation of the arrival of Team GB's Olympic football squad.

STRI was appointed to oversee the preparation of the football pitches at Eltham (pictured) in August 2011 and has improved playing surfaces with irrigation, drainage and a surface renovation programme.

The pitches, now of Premier League quality, have also been levelled and reseeded.

Commenting on the completion of improvement works at the College, Lee Penrose, STRI project manager said: "The work we have undertaken on these pitches will not only give Stuart Pearce's squad Premier League standard surfaces to train on, but will also prove a lasting legacy for the college to enjoy after the Games.

Tony Timms, Eltham College Estates Manager, added: "Everyone at the college is extremely proud to host Team GB and the other teams who will use our facilities.

"In addition, following the Games, our pupils will benefit from the transformation for many years to come."

Eltham College is one of eight UK venues that will benefit from a sporting legacy following the work done by STRI at all the football training facilities.

The College is also hosting other London 2012 international football teams playing their matches at Wembley Stadium.
