2014 World Equestrian Games logoJune 6 - The Organising Committee of the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG) has marked the anniversary of the D-Day landings on the beaches of Normandy today with the launch of a cinematographic poster promoting next year's showpiece event in the historic French region.

The poster, designed by illustrator Jeff Wack who has worked with the likes of Coca-Cola, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, MGM Studios, Heineken, Bank of America, Nokia, Activision, Microsoft, takes inspiration from the major Hollywood blockbusters of yesteryear and features an army of horse riders sweeping the Normandy landscape.

The competition disciplines - jumping, eventing, dressage, reining, endurance, vaulting, driving, Para-dressage, polo and horse-ball - all make an appearance as do the venues that will host the tournament from August 23 to September 7 next year and key sites such as the Abbey of Saint-Etienne, the Mont St Michel, Le Pin National Stud, the cliffs of Étretat and the Normandy Bridge.

"Working from real photographs, competitors and horses have all been redrawn down to the most minute detail," read an International Equestrian Federation (FEI) statement.

"[And] those legendary sites form the perfect backdrop for the horse riders, and represent a testimony to Normandy's richness and diversity."

The 2014 WEG will see more than 1,000 athletes competing in 15 days of competition, with 59 titles and 177 medals all for the taking.

The Games are also expected to be watched by a television audience of more than 500 million viewers.
