Erislandy Savon's victory in the final bout of the night at heavyweight led Cuba leading Baku Fires 3-2 in the World Series of Boxing final WSB ©WSBCuba Domadores edged ahead 3-2 of home favourites Azerbaijan Baku Fires in the first leg of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) Season IV here thanks to a victory in the final bout of the evening for heavyweight Erislandy Savon.

The Cuban, nephew of three-time Olympic gold medallist Felix Savon, won a unanimous points decision against Abdulkadir Abdullayev, who earlier this season had knocked out Italy's two-time world champion and double Olympic silver medallist Clemente Russo.

Savon's fluidity and fast punching was too much for Abdullayev - who was forced to face a standing count -  and his victory meant he has won all seven of his bouts in this debut season for Cuba.

Another undefeated Cuban, Yosbany Veitia, had started the night off in style in the light flyweight when he beat Khamza Nametov for a second time this season with a combination of fast hands and dynamic reflexes laced with some entertaining moments of showmanship.

Baku Fires Magomed Gurbanov had levelled things up with victory in the bantamweight fight against Cuba's Norlan Yera, winning his contest on all three scoreboards despite losing the last two of the five rounds.

Cuba's Alren Lopez outboxed Baku Fire's Khaybula Musalov in their middleweight clash, the first defeat of the season for the Azerbaijan fighter.

But Gaybatulla Gadzhialiyev drew Baku Fires level again with a hard-fought victory over Yasnier Toledo.

Toledo's only defeat so far this season had been by one point against Gadzhialiyev in the group match between these two teams and, it did not matter how hard he tried and was cheered on by the small section in the Cuban crowd, he did not gain his revenge.

This rematch was just as close, with Gadzhialiyev winning the first couple of rounds, before Toledo rallied in the next two rounds.

Going into the final round, Toledo was winning the fight on one scorecard, while the other two scorecards were dead level.

Gadzhialiyev 's constant pressure just about attracted the judges more than Toledo's flurries, and he took his record over the Cuban to 2-0 in WSB, with both wins coming by the narrowest of margins, and in this instance by just one point on two scorecards by split decision.

Savon's victory left the match delicately poised when it resumes tonight with the possibility that it could go to a sudden-death welterweight contest between Baku Fires' Yauheni Ramashkevich and Cuba's Arisnoydis Despaigne if the scores are still level after ten bouts.
