Kom, one of the sport's biggest female stars, was not selected for the squad following the conclusion of the three-day Indian trials in Patiala.

The bout with Jangra was close throughout and judges took more than 10 minutes to make their decision before handing a shock victory to Jangra.

Kom was initially unhappy with the decision and filed a complaint.

This was later dropped meaning the 31-year-old will not be making her Commonwealth Games debut this year as women's boxing is included on the programme for the first time.

"It was a close bout and I wish Pinki all the best," said Kom, who has recently returned to the ring following the birth of her third child in May last year.

"I hope she brings India a medal."

A delighted Jangra, who beat Kom before in the 2009 National Championships, will now represent India in the flyweight division in Glasgow.

"This is the biggest breakthrough of my career," said the 24-year-old.

"I respect Mary did a lot, she has been an inspiration for us.

"I am very excited to get this opportunity and would look to make the most of it.

"I think I beat Mary because I have been an active camper and she was coming back after a break.

"So, I managed to catch her off-guard."

The absence of Kom will strengthen the gold medal hopes of England's Olympic champion Nicola Adams in Glasgow, who beat the Indian on her way to winning gold at London 2012.

The other boxers who were selected in the women's squad are World Championship silver-medallist L Sarita Devi at lightweight and middleweight Pooja Rani.

Meanwhile, eight male boxers will represent India this summer and there were no surprises with the line-up.

Olympic and World Championship bronze medallist Vijender Singh got the nod in the middleweight division and will be joined by Olympians L Devendro Singh at light flyweight, Shiva Thapa at flyweight, light heavyweight Sumit Sangwan, heavyweight Dinesh Kumar and Praveen More at super heavyweight.

Rising star Mandeep Jangra will compete at welterweight.

India won three gold and four bronze boxing medals at Delhi 2010.

The boxing competitions at Glasgow 2014 is due to be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) with the finals being staged at the SSE Hydro.
