Dan_RobinsonNovember 3 - Dan Robinson, the UK's fastest marathon runner of the past three years, has chosen Brighton to launch his campaign for glory at the London 2012 Olympics.

Robinson (pictured right), who clocked 2 hours 12min 13sec in Amsterdam in 2009 and is renowned for his steady starts and fast finishing, will compete in the seaside resort's second annual race on April 10 next year.

"I am delighted to be taking part and I look forward to a competitive race," said Robinson.

"It's really exciting to be part of a new venture.

"The race will be an important part in my build-up to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics."

Tim Hutchings, race director of the Brighton event, said: "Securing the UK's fastest and most consistent marathon runner of the last few years is just what we were after and I'm thrilled Dan has committed.

"It sends a signal to other top runners that the Brighton Marathon is very much on the map and when they look at it, they'll see the event itself offers a fast course and excellent organisation, and that the city offers massive crowd support and a wonderful atmosphere on a compact and spectator-friendly route."

The highlight of Robinson's career is Commonwealth bronze from Melbourne 2006.

The part-time PE teacher and father of two started off his sports career as a footballer but got into running to improve his fitness.

The second Brighton Marathon will increase in size from 12,000 to 15,000 places as well as give the city's youngsters a chance to stretch their legs in the Grand Hotel Mini-Mile Races.
