altApril 24 - The Super Bowl, the United States biggest sporting event, could be staged at Wembley, a venue for the 2012 Olympics, a senior NFL executive admitted today, as first revealed by insidethegames 18 months ago.

It was insidethegames that first revealed in October 2007 that the NFL were looking into holidng the Super Bowl outside the US and that London was their first choice.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has expressed interest in the past about bringing the game to London in an effort to expand the game to a global audience.

Frank Supovitz, the vice-president of the NFL, said: "We've spoken on what it would take to host and for us to bring it over.

"The city has all the facilities needed, and in great quantity."

Visit London, the city's official visitor organisation, has long pursued a deal to bring the Super Bowl to the capital.

David Hornby, the commercial director of Visit London, saidi: "Ever since the NFL began playing games in London we have been in discussions with the NFL about what is involved in staging Super Bowl from the host city perspective."

While the venues for the next three Super Bowls have already been chosen, London appears to be a real possibility down the road.
