A full schedule has been unveiled for the Swansea 2014 IPC Athletics Championships ©Swansea 2014April 24 - A competition schedule consisting of 199 sets of medals over five days of competition has been unveiled for this year's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics European Championships in Swansea.

The event, set to be one of the biggest Para-athletics meeting of the year in the absence of a World Championships, will attract 600 of the continents top athletes from around 40 different countries.

As they did on home turf at London 2012, British athletes can be expected to lead the way, and the first evening could see one of the host nations biggest stars in action in the form of Jonnie Peacock in the men's 100 metres T44 final.

Two other British Paralympic champions due to compete are Hannah Cockcroft in the 100m T34, and F52 discus thrower Josie Pearson, who is also reigning world champion and was brought up in Wales.

But there will also be a strong international challenge, and day one should renew a rivalry between the world's fastest female Paralympian Marlou Van Rhijn of the Netherlands and her great rival Marie Amelie Le Fur of France in the 100m T44 category.

The second evening should see David Weir, one of the biggest stars of London 2012, in the men's 1,500m T54 when he could go head to head with Swiss world champion, and fierce rival, Marcel Hug,

Another star in action is due to be Ireland's world record holder Jason Smyth in the 100m T13.

On day three it will be the turn of the 200m events, with leading contenders expected to be Britain's Richard Whitehead in the T42 category, Ukraine's Oxana Boturchuk in the T12, and Russia's Evgeny Shvetcov in the T36.

One of the most exciting competitions of the week in the field, the women's long jump F34, will then take place on day four, where France's Marie Amelie Le Fur, Great Britain Stef Reid and Dutch world champion Iris Pruysen could head-to-head.

The 200m finals also conclude with a mouth-watering clash in prospect between another Dutch world champion in Kenny van Weeghel, and Finland's Leo-Pekka Tahti.

The final day will see guaranteed drama with the relay events, but the final word could go to a local boy in Aled Davies, as the Bridgend bord 22-year-old seeks to add the European title to his London 2012 and World Championship ones in the F42 discus.

The event is due to take place at Swansea University International Sports Village, with morning sessions scheduled to take place between 9am and 1pm, before afternoon sessions packed with medal action get underway between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the event website here, as well as from the Swansea City Tourist Information Centre and the Penyrheol Leisure Centre.
