usashotputJune 14 - Nigerian-born American shot put thrower Dennis Ogbe impressed at the 2013 United States Paralympics Track and Field National Championships in San Antonio before severe weather conditions forced the event's postponement.

Officials postponed session two events five minutes before they were due to commence because of a nearby lightning storm with an accompanying heavy downpour of rain, leaving them with no alternative but to reschedule events.

But some of America's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championships hopefuls took their chance to shine in the earlier session, including Ogbe- a representative for Nigeria at the Sydney 2000 Paralympics - who took the F56-58 men's shot put title with a throw of 13.64 metres - nearly 4.5m more than his nearest rival. 

Paralympian and army veteran Ce-Ce Mazyck also put in a solid performance took gold in the women's javelin with a throw of 19.89m.

"I'm in love with the javelin," she said.

"I felt good, I felt confident, I delivered."

"It is such a relief,"

"I can breathe now.

"I was a little stuffed up before today but I can breathe clearly now that I'm done."

Three-time Paralympic silver medallist Elexis Gillette also impressed as he took gold in the F11/12 men's shot put, as another army veteran Scott Winkler won the F54/55 men's shot put, and Mexican Rebeca Valenzuela won in the women's F11-13/37/46 javelin.

London 2012 silver medallist Shaquille Vance cruised to qualification for the men's T42 200 metres final in the only track event of the day, coming in with a time of 26.91 in heat one.

The track action will get back underway on tomorrow from 8.30 am, with field events due to begin half-an-hour later.
