Paralympic track__field_athlete_Jeremy_Campbell_of_USAJune 18 - American Paralympic track and field athletes stars Jeremy Campbell and Tatyana McFadden have claimed the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) male and female Athlete of the Month prizes respectively after a sensation few weeks that has seen both put the final touches on their preparations for London 2012.

Campbell, the 25-year-old leg amputee from Texas and double Paralympic champion from Beijing 2008, proved his class as he set a world record in the F44 men's discus at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester with a huge throw of 62.14 metres.

The achievement made Campbell the first Paralympic athlete to throw over 200 feet and just as importantly gave him a moral boosting victory over his great rival Daniel Greaves of Britain, with the pair set to battle it out for gold at London 2012.

Meanwhile, McFadden (pictured below) had a hugely impressive month as the 23-year-old Russian-born wheelchair racing star went undefeated in nine races across three different meets.

Her victories saw her set an American record in the 100 metres and also lead an American sweep in the 400m at the BT Paralympic World Cup.

McFadden will now be a strong gold medal contender at London 2012 having won five gold medals at the World Championships last year.

Campbell finished first in the voting for the USOC Male of the Month award ahead of water polo star Tony Azevedo and diver Chris Colwill while McFadden took the female prize ahead of able-bodied track and field athlete Stephanie Brown-Trafton and water polo player Maggie Steffens.

The recipients are nominated by their National Governing Body, who may put forward one female, one male and one team per discipline.

A voting panel selects the winners from the pool of nominees with online fan voting via Twitter accounting for 10 per cent of the total vote.
