August 21 - Sean Rose (pictured) is to lead a sponsored 70 mile hand-bike ride by Britain's disabled ski team next month from Ben Nevis to the Cairngorms to help raise money for next season's campaign.

Proceeds from the September 11 ride will be split between the team, to help with training and event costs, and Disability Snowsports UK.

For downhill sit skier Rose it will represent another important stage in his rehabilitation following a crash during the super combined downhill during the Paralympics in Vancouver in March which left him with a serious shoulder injury.

The 38-year-old from St Neots said: "I had keyhole shoulder surgery back in May following a crash at the Paralympics in March, so it’s taking time to heal."

Rose, who is currently training in the Rocky Mountains in Canada, is happy with his progress.

He said: "I couldn’t push myself up the ramp following my shoulder operation, [so] to where I am today has been pretty miraculous.

"I’m real happy with the progress.

"I did a 30 miler [hand-bike ride] yesterday with a total climb of 1,000ft - there are lots of ups and downs round here!

"So I’m steadily inching towards the 70-mile ride with 2,500ft of ascent, but it’s going to be really tough."
