jacques_rogge_dmitry_chernyshenko_and_jean-claude_killy_14-09-11September 12 - Dmitry Chernyshenko, President and chief executive of Sochi 2014, has claimed the Russian city is well ahead of schedule in terms of building infrastructure for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission currently beginning their inspection of the plans for the event.

The Commission, chaired by France's Jean-Claude Killy, are starting three-day inspection of the Black Sea coast resort and are being given updates from the Organising Committee on areas of Games preparations relating to groups such as the athletes, spectators, media, National Olympic Committees, International Federations and marketing partners.

There will also be updates on Games-wide points of interest such as construction, communications, culture and education, transport, accommodation, sustainability, workforce and technology, but the Sochi 2014 President is confident that the Commission will be impressed and added that the city is on track to have work completed by the end of 2012.

"Plans for Sochi 2014 are going very well and we are well ahead of schedule so I think that this is something that will very much impress the IOC Coordination Commission as they carry out their inspections," Chernyshenko told insidethegames.

"This is the sixth visit of the Commission to Sochi and every time they have come before, Jean-Claude Killy has said that we have made great progress and has paid tribute to the whole team working on the project.

"We think they will again be impressed by what they will see on this latest visit.

"Our ambition is to have all the work completed by 2012 and we are on track to achieve this ambition.

"This will give us the time to carry out all the test events and other necessary preparations to make sure that Sochi hosts a fantastic Winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2014."

The Commission's visit of Sochi will be concluded with site visits to some of the venues which have been developed since their last visit in March earlier this year.
