Rio-de-JaneiroApril 5 - Rio 2016 have hosted six International Federations as delegations from each met with the Organising Committee to visit their competition venues and exchange ideas on the project.


Senior delegations from the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), the International Cycling Union (UCI), the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) and the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) have been on the ground in Rio.

Each has attended a series of meetings with the Organising Committee with just over three years to go to the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games take place in the city.

"Along with the athletes, the international federations are the most important clients for the sports department," said Rio 2016 sports competition manager Rodrigo Garcia.

"We work together to answer questions and update them on our project progress.

"They want to know about the venues, become familiarised with the training venues and many other operational details."

Among the main subjects discussed during these visits were the test event preparations, transport to the competition and training venues and validation of specific content, such as the pictograms for each sport.

International Federations scheduled to visit Rio later this month are the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the International Canoe Federation (ICF).

The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) have scheduled visits for next month.
