bmw floating_showroom_09-02-121February 11 - BMW, the official automotive partner for the London 2012 Olympic Games, has unveiled an 8,000 square foot floating showroom between the Aquatics Centre and the Olympic Stadium at the Olympic Park in Stratford.

The automotive giant are providing 4,000 vehicles to transport athletes and officials during the Games, and following a competition they chose the design of British architectural firm Serie for the pavilion.

The company expect to receive in excess of 8,000 visitors a day during the Olympics, and they will be able to see a selection of BMW's newest models on plinths suspended over water, giving the impression that it floats, at the two story pavilion.

River water will be used to sustainably cool the showroom as the company seek to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, also reflected in the use of electric, hybrid and low emission vehicles during the Games.

BMW Group UK's managing director Tim Abbott said: "As a major investor, manufacturer and employer in the UK, BMW Group is deeply proud to be an official partner for Britain's first Olympic and Paralympic Games since 1948.

"This commitment to the UK is also reflected in our choice of a home-grown architecture practice to design our pavilion, and we're delighted that Serie's final design reflects our commitment to sustainable thinking in such an innovative and eye-catching manner.

"We believe it provides a truly worthy addition to the Olympic Park."

Serie co-founder and principal architect Christopher Lee added: "The design takes the idea of the pavilion in the [Olympic] Park – the Victorian bandstand – but instead of one pavilion we envision nine pavilions clustered together to form a family."
