Rapiscan_machineMarch 11 - Rapiscan Systems UK has agreed a deal with London 2012 to become the official security equipment and systems supplier for next year's Olympics and Paralympics.

The agreement sees Rapiscan, the Crawley-based company which specialises in walk-through metal detectors, and x-ray machines for airport luggage become a Tier Three sponsor of the Games as well, and it will provide over 2,000 systems for screening vehicles, people, baggage and parcels throughout all the Olympic venues, including the Olympic village.

The systems will safeguard everyone from athletes and visitors to employees and volunteers and London 2012 commercial director Chris Townsend was keen to emphasise the importance of the deal.

"Keeping athletes, spectators and everyone involved safe at the Games is a vital part of our role and to do that we need a significant amount of equipment and expertise, which Rapiscan Systems will provide," he said.

"We are very happy to welcome them to the London 2012 family and look forward to working with them between now and Games-time to ensure our Games are the best, and safest, they can be."

Ajay Mehra , President of Rapsican Systems Ltd, added: "The importance of this award goes far beyond its commercial value.

"The confidence that LOCOG has demonstrated in Rapiscan demonstrates our leadership in security screening solutions.

"Our security screening technology allows for both superior non-intrusive threat detection and extremely high throughput, so we will be able to not only improve security but also enhance visitor satisfaction."
