Jonnie Peacock_07-09-23September 7 - London 2012 Paralympic host broadcaster Channel 4 has revealed a record number of viewers for its Games-time sport coverage so far as "Thriller Thursday" last night saw 6.3 million tune in to watch Jonnie Peacock's gold medal winning performance in the T44 100 metres final.

It was Briton's race (pictured top), the blue-riband event of the Paralympics, that saw viewing figures hit their peak at 9.25pm GMT last night, surpassing six million for the first time during the Games.

As the 19-year-old from Cambridge claimed victory in a Paralympic record of 10.90sec against a field that included South Africa's defending champion Oscar Pistorius, 6.3 million viewers watched on Channel 4, while a further 400,000 viewed the race on the Paralympic Extra live streams, translating to a total of 6.7 million watching on Channel 4 platforms.

It exceeded the previous record audience for Paralympic sport in the United Kingdom, which was Sunday (September 2) night's 4.4 million for the 200m T44 final, and stands only behind the viewing figures for the Paralympic Opening Ceremony, which reached 11.2 million.

Channel 4's peak-time Paralympics coverage also included David Weir winning his third gold of the Games in the T54 800m, which was watched by a peak audience of 5.5 million, and Hannah Cockroft (pictured below) winning her second London 2012 gold in the T34 200m final in front of a peak audience of 4.1 million.

It means that from 9.10pm to 9.55pm, the live coverage of the Paralympic track and field made Channel 4 the most watched television channel in the UK.

The evening's entertainment from 7.30pm to 11.00pm averaged 3.5 million viewers, a 17 per cent share of the audience.

For the entire day, the Paralympic coverage helped Channel 4 to average an 11.6 per cent share, which shows a huge increase of their 12-month average of 75 per cent.
