Scotland House will be open for the duration of the Olympics, from July 27 until August 12, and will host formal events, while acting as a base for business meetings and the families of Scottish athletes.

The announcement comes after Scotland House was staged at the Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, but this will be its first appearance at an Olympic Games.

"London 2012 is a huge opportunity to showcase Scotland to a global audience," said Scotland's Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison.

"People and companies from all over the world will come to London to meet, interact and do business during the Olympics and we want to maximise the opportunities of having representatives of all 204 Olympic countries in London.

"With representation from our enterprise, tourism, sport creative and event agencies, Scotland House will host an eye catching programme of formal and informal events including the best of our food, drink and music.

"In the build-up to 2014 and the year of homecoming, it will be a platform for Scottish and international visitors to network, do business and help sell Scotland to the world."

Glasgow 2014 is set to host events at Scotland House, including a special reception for invited guests during the Olympics, in order to promote the Commonwealth Games.

Several Scottish celebrities have lent their support to the venture including golfer Colin Montgomerie, singer Emeli Sandé and musician Nicola Benedetti.

"I'm delighted to be part of a team representing Scotland in showing London the best of what we have to offer during the Olympics this summer," Benedetti said.

The Army and Navy Club (pictured above) in Pall Mall is known informally as "The Rag" and it is actually a gentlemen's club founded in 1837 by Lieutenant-General Sir Edward Barnes.

Membership to the club is now offered to members of Commonwealth armed services and their immediate families, and it currently has some five thousand members, including women.

It is located close to the British Business Embassy at Lancaster House and around half an hour from the Olympic Park in Stratford by tube.

The London 2012 Scotland House is a partnership between the Scottish Government, VisitScotland, EventScotland, Scottish Enterprise, Creative Scotland and sportscotland, with input from Glasgow 2014, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and Marketing Edinburgh.

It will be closed to the general public during the Olympics and has no connection with Team GB House in Westfield Stratford City.
