surrey sports_park_19-04-12April 21 - Surrey will be hosting more Olympic and Paralympic training camps than any other county in the South East region of England with a total of 31 teams committed to using its training facilities to prepare for London 2012.

In total, they will be hosting 20 Olympic only training camps, five Paralympic only training camps while Mauritius, Mongolia and Nigeria will be using Surrey for combined Olympic and Paralympic camps to complete the 31 team line-up for Surrey.

"It is a fantastic testament to Surrey's excellent facilities that 31 teams want to train in Surrey," said Surrey County Council's Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games Helyn Clack.

"The training camps will provide an estimated boost of over half a million pounds to the local economy and provide our communities and businesses with opportunities to forge enduring cultural, educational and business relationships.

"I am particularly pleased to see so many Paralympic teams coming to use Surrey's facilities endorsing the council's policies on diversity and inclusion."

Athletes from Canada, Croatia, Dominica and Singapore have already trained in Surrey.

In addition, the British basketball and cycling teams will be using the venue to finalise their preparations for London 2012 along with the United States' cycling and triathlon competitors.

Surrey Sports Park is one of the key locations that the majority of the teams will be using and it is one of the United Kingdom's leading state-of-the-art sports facilities.

The centre hosts Surrey's first 50 metre pool, three large sports arenas, eight outdoor floodlit tennis courts, two new floodlit artificial grass pitches and ten outdoor pitches.

It also has a 12m high climbing centre with a unique bouldering facility, as well as a 250 seat Starbucks Coffee House, which is also the first Starbucks in Europe to be housed within a multisport facility.
