House_of_Switzerland_mock_upJuly 23 - A mini-village in and around Glaziers Hall will be the centrepiece of the House of Switzerland during London 2012, it has been announced.

The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Presence Switzerland revealed their plans, making it one of the few Houses to be fully open to the public during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

More than 250,000 people are expected to visit the House during the Games, which are due to open on July 27 next year and last until August 12.

Glaziers Hall adjoins London Bridge and the so-called 'Nancy Steps' made famous by Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist.

"The London 2012 Olympic Games is a wonderful opportunity for Switzerland to engage with a wide range of tourists and UK residents around the world's largest sporting and cultural event," said Anton Thalmann, the Swiss Ambassador in London.

"Switzerland and the UK share a strong and long-established relationship, with the House of Switzerland another example of our joint collaboration in exciting and innovative projects."

Flashes of red will be scattered across the area to steer guests from the UK and around the world towards the House where they will be able to experience the very best of Swiss culture, cuisine and business creativity, including the chance to play a politics-based game where visitors can try their hands at direct democracy Swiss-style, using touch screens.

Traditional English pubs will turn into rustic Swiss chalets.

There will be an open-air stage for Swiss music and cultural performances and a large screen in the courtyard outside Glaziers Hall will bring live television coverage of all major events at the various stadiums.

Distinctive red pathways and bold red signs are planned to let the 250,000 expected visitors know they are in Little Switzerland.

The official caterer will be Mosimann's, who will offer fusions of Bernese, Swiss and British specialities.

"We are delighted to outline our vision for welcoming Londoners, Olympic fans and tourists to one of the few Houses fully open to the public," said Nicolas Bideau, Head of Presence Switzerland.

"With free admission and a lively atmosphere, we estimate providing 250,000 guests with a flavour of modern Switzerland.

"We look forward to showcasing a different side of our country in 2012 – visitors should expect the unexpected!"
